Enduring to the End!

April 24, 2012

In this video we learn a painful lesson, if we don’t endure to the end we won’t gain the prize. Being a distance runner I know how painful it can be to keep going all the way to the finish line, but we must keep going. Even though he ran an amazing race he couldn’t endure to the end and literally fell. On a spiritual sense we have to keep following the commandments of God all of our lives. The story of David is a perfect example of this. He started out great slaying Goliath and becoming King over all of Israel, but fell after committing adultery with Bathsheba and killing Uriah. Even though he did many amazing things he lost his divine potential due to mistakes made later in life. We learn how to overcome and endure to the end from King Benjamin in the Book of Mormon, “And see that all these things are done in wisdom and order; for it is not requisite that a man should run faster than he has strength. And again, it is expedient that he should be diligent, that thereby he might win the prize; therefore, all things must be done in order!” Mosiah 4:27 As we are patient and diligent we understand that we can always repent,  pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and win the race!

What is the Worlds Best App?

February 1, 2012

What is the worlds best App? There are over 500,000 Apps in the App store. No matter our hobbies, interests, talents, Apple has said, “There’s an App for that!” With so many incredible Apps to choose from how can we know which is The BEST?  As I pondered that question another one came into mind, “what is the purpose of an application or an App? According to Dictionary.com the definition of the word application is “the act of putting to a special use or purpose: the application of common sense to a problem.” It also says, “the quality of being useable for a particular purpose or in a special way; relevance.”. So with those definitions in mind, I asked myself, “what should an App be able to do?”   Apps should be designed to make our lives easier and more enjoyable. An App should be specifically designed to make you happy.  To make you happier and help you no matter what mood or situation you are in. Everytime you use this App you should feel lasting peace and comfort, not only fleeting joy.  It must be practical, relevant, and personal.  It should be beneficial for all people no matter  how old or young they are. It should be able to be used at home or on the go. You must know that everything you see is real and true! So what App fits all of those qualifications? What is the worlds BEST App?

The Scripture App!!!!

Now before you stop reading let me explain what I mean. When we APPly the things we learn in the scriptures it changes our lives. The scriptures are the word of God designed to give us help and instruct us in all the phases of our lives. Each specific scripture can help us to solve a specific problem in our life.

How Does this App work?

I said earlier that this App must be practical, relevant, and personal.  When I turned to the scriptures it did exactly that. I was having a pretty bad day and it seemed like nothing was going right. I felt like I wasn’t important and that I wasn’t making a difference. I felt like I didn’t have a friend in the world.  In my time of trial I decided to use the scripture app when I read…Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.  Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.  Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friend; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. John 15:13-15 As I read that scripture and then APPlied it to my life I realized that I did have a friend, and that He has already done everything for me and will do anything for me if I would simply ask and keep His commandments. The APPlication of that scripture was exactly what I needed and it stayed with me far longer than any game ever could.

Once again I was having a difficult time, this time with my college math class. I had never felt so dumb in my life, I honestly felt like a failure. I was seriously wondering if I should just drop the class when I turned to the Book of Mormon and read… Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life. 2 Nephi 31:20 After reading that I knew that I needed to keep going and to do my best.  I knew that if I continued to love one another, and trust in God, everything would work out.  As I did that I didn’t suddenly become an expert at Math.  I didn’t ace all of my tests, but I did the best that I could and felt peace. I knew that everything would be alright.

There are Apps for everything.  It is my hope that we allow the scriptures to become a part of our live, that the verses in them can be as significant as the programs on our Ipod. I hope that we can say, “there’s a scripture for that!” It is also my hope that we turn to the scriptures before we turn to anything else.  As we APPly their words they will help us, guide us, and always bless us!!!!

Don’t believe me? Read the scriptures and see if they can bless your life! Order The Holy Bible and  Order The Book of Mormon both are FREE!!!!

Sailing into the New Year

January 3, 2012

Change, change, and more change, this time of year is a time where everybody is making changes.  Many people set goals of changing the things around them.   There are undeniably times that we need to change the circumstances we are in, however, the real changes must start from the inside and flow out. President Thomas S. Monson said, “We can’t direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.”  We can’t change the things around us but we can change the way that we, see, think, and react to life. Our attitude determines our altitude. “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is heProverbs 23:7  So how do we gain this positive attitude? We do this by not only understanding who we are, but what we have the potential to become. When we understand the personal relationship that we can have with our Heavenly Father and our savior Jesus Christ, it changes our life! When we understand that we are a child of God, He loves us and wants us to live with Him forever, nothing that the winds of the world  blow at us really matter.  Certainly times will be tough, bad things happen to good people, however, we “can do ALL things through Christ that strengtheneth us.” Philippians 4:13  This year when life gets hard and your head droops down, remember “It’s always better to look up!”

How to Navigate the Streets of Life!

December 8, 2011

Driving is something seemingly easy but it can become challenging when we move to a new city. In Niagara Falls, One-way streets have been something particularly annoying. Not only do I have to be a safe driver(which is hard enough)I have to make sure I get everywhere I need to go safely.

5 Steps to Navigating the Streets of Niagara Falls

1. I have to  listen to the GPS so I don’t get lost.

 2. Watch the traffic lights.

3. Look for house numbers and street signs.

4.  Dodge hundreds of Pot holes daily.(I’m serious)

5.  Absolutely make sure that I’m not driving the wrong way on a One-way street.

As you can see it takes a little bit of work to stay safe.   As I was reading in the Old Testament I came across a really neat scripture and reminded me of this, Elijah is talking to the priests of Baal when he says something simply profound, “How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.” 1 Kings 18:21  Following God is a one way street, we can’t follow Him and the Devil at the same time.  If we were to try we would end up in a head on collision(spiritually speaking). Jesus Christ taught,  “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” Matthew 6:24 Just like driving around in Niagara falls takes work, so also does following God.  In addition to regular life we have to,

5 Steps to Navigating the Streets of life

1. Listen to the Spirit.(So we don’t get lost)

2. Always look to Christ (The Light of the world)

3. Study the scriptures. (To show us where we’re at)

4. Dodge hundreds of temptations daily. (I’m serious)

 5. Absolutely make sure everything we do points us to God.

If we do this I know we will be spiritually safe!!!

Keep it Simple…Follow the Prophet

December 6, 2011

In the book of 2 Kings we learn an amazing lesson about following the prophet.  Naaman was a man who had leprosy, so he went  Elisha the prophet and asked to be healed.  Elisha told him to bathe in the Jordan River 7 times and he would be made clean.  Naaman was upset, he could believe that a disease as bad as leprosy could be healed by simply taking 7 baths, so he refused!  “And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?”  2 Kings 5: 13

He listened to his servant, and then followed what the prophet said.  When he listened to the prophet he was made clean!  I’ve found that sometimes we neglect or forget to do the small, easy, and simple things. We wonder how doing something as simple as praying everyday could really cleanse us.  Prophets are men who tell the world how to follow God. We learn from the story that the simple and easy things that we do to follow God are the things that make us clean! I know that Thomas S. Monson is the prophet on the earth today and that if we follow his teachings we will be blessed!

Think of the small things we do everyday to follow the prophet!

Small and Simple

November 15, 2011

As I was walking home from the library feeling frustrated about not being able to finish a long and complicated blog, a small and simple scripture came into my mind,

“Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are  great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise.  And the Lord God doth work by means to bring about his great and eternal purposes; and by very small means the Lord doth confound the wise and bringeth about the salvation of many souls.” Alma 37:6-7

I realized that it is the small and simple things in life that really mean the most.  When we slow down we notice the small things that Heavenly Father gives to us everyday. When we slow down we are able to recognize the moments that matter most!

As you watch the video think of all of the small ways that Heavenly Father has blessed your life!

Why is The Book of Mormon Important?

October 28, 2011

So…before I start talking about The Book of Mormon, I’m actually going to talk a little bit about The Bible first.  In the Bible we have the Old Testament and the New Testament.    In the Old Testament we learn about prophets and how God was able to speak to man.  We learn amazing stories about how people were blessed by trusting in God.  In the New Testament we learn of the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ! We learn of His miracles, His teachings, and most importantly we learn of His infinite and eternal love that He showed to each and every one of us by suffering and dying for our sins.  We learn of the teachings of his apostles following His death. Both Testaments are witnesses that Jesus is the Christ!  I love The Bible! I read from it everyday!  All that being said you might ask yourself what more do we need?  Why is The Book of Mormon even necessary?  Well….let me tell you 🙂  The Book of Mormon is a volume of scripture comparable to the Bible.  It teaches us how to trust in God and follow Jesus Christ!   It contains stories and revelations from prophets in the American continent. It contains the direct teachings of Jesus Christ as he appeared to and taught the people in the American continents. 3 Nephi 11 In this account we learn even more about his ability to lift, to love, to heal, and to save! From the Bible we learn that, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16   As I read from the Book of Mormon I find it does all of those things! It truly is exactly what it says..Another Testament of Jesus Christ! Just as the New Testament doesn’t take anything from the Old Testament the same is true with the Book of Mormon.  They may contain different stories but I find the message they contain to be the same.  A Book of Mormon prophet once said, “And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.” 2 Nephi 25:26 It has built my faith in Jesus Christ.  It has helped me to know that God is mindful of us and our needs.  It has made me a happier person.  It has changed my life! I know that the Book of Mormon is true!   “And now, my beloved brethren, and also Jew, and all ye ends of the earth, hearken unto these words and believe in Christ; and if ye believe not in these words believe in Christ. And if ye shall believe in Christ ye will believe in these words, for they are the words of Christ, and he hath given them unto me; and they teach all men that they should do good.” 2 Nephi 33:10 I know that the Book of Mormon can bless you too!  “And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.” Moroni 10:4-5  I would invite you not to take my word for it but to find out for yourself if it is true. I know that if you do this you will know that this book is true!!! I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
