How to Navigate the Streets of Life!

December 8, 2011

Driving is something seemingly easy but it can become challenging when we move to a new city. In Niagara Falls, One-way streets have been something particularly annoying. Not only do I have to be a safe driver(which is hard enough)I have to make sure I get everywhere I need to go safely.

5 Steps to Navigating the Streets of Niagara Falls

1. I have to  listen to the GPS so I don’t get lost.

 2. Watch the traffic lights.

3. Look for house numbers and street signs.

4.  Dodge hundreds of Pot holes daily.(I’m serious)

5.  Absolutely make sure that I’m not driving the wrong way on a One-way street.

As you can see it takes a little bit of work to stay safe.   As I was reading in the Old Testament I came across a really neat scripture and reminded me of this, Elijah is talking to the priests of Baal when he says something simply profound, “How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.” 1 Kings 18:21  Following God is a one way street, we can’t follow Him and the Devil at the same time.  If we were to try we would end up in a head on collision(spiritually speaking). Jesus Christ taught,  “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” Matthew 6:24 Just like driving around in Niagara falls takes work, so also does following God.  In addition to regular life we have to,

5 Steps to Navigating the Streets of life

1. Listen to the Spirit.(So we don’t get lost)

2. Always look to Christ (The Light of the world)

3. Study the scriptures. (To show us where we’re at)

4. Dodge hundreds of temptations daily. (I’m serious)

 5. Absolutely make sure everything we do points us to God.

If we do this I know we will be spiritually safe!!!

Keep it Simple…Follow the Prophet

December 6, 2011

In the book of 2 Kings we learn an amazing lesson about following the prophet.  Naaman was a man who had leprosy, so he went  Elisha the prophet and asked to be healed.  Elisha told him to bathe in the Jordan River 7 times and he would be made clean.  Naaman was upset, he could believe that a disease as bad as leprosy could be healed by simply taking 7 baths, so he refused!  “And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?”  2 Kings 5: 13

He listened to his servant, and then followed what the prophet said.  When he listened to the prophet he was made clean!  I’ve found that sometimes we neglect or forget to do the small, easy, and simple things. We wonder how doing something as simple as praying everyday could really cleanse us.  Prophets are men who tell the world how to follow God. We learn from the story that the simple and easy things that we do to follow God are the things that make us clean! I know that Thomas S. Monson is the prophet on the earth today and that if we follow his teachings we will be blessed!

Think of the small things we do everyday to follow the prophet!
